President’s Message

We were unable to have a quorum for our November VOMCA meeting. There are important items that need to be approved. One is the Olde Mill Swim Club budget and the other is the VOMCA budget for 2009. Moreover, we need to elect officers and board members. Please try to attend the Dec. 3 meeting so we can achieve a quorum.
I have received requests for assistance from homeowners in the Olde Mill area. I will be looking into all the issues that you all have sent me and will get back to you. I was also surprised at the number of requests that came in for the assistance of VOMCA. Most of the requests that come in state in the beginning of their communications to us that the individuals requesting the assistance of VOMCA are not VOMCA members. I would like to let everyone know that VOMCA will assist ANYONE in the community of Olde Mill that needs our help. I would just like to add that VOMCA is your voice and is the voice of the greater Olde Mill area. I would like everyone in Olde Mill to please support your organization and join VOMCA for $15 a year. There are about 1300 homes in greater Olde Mill and only about 300 members. Joining VOMCA helps all of us because it shows we are one as a community. I know it is hard to volunteer time because of other engagements but joining would help your VOMCA organization just as much, so we can show elected officials we have a large membership within Olde Mill.
As for information on the Olde Mill Swim Club, we will be using Community Pools again for the 2009 swim season. For the 2009 season we have cut back on guard hours. The hours were never adjusted for some time and statistics show that we had 277 hours a week when our membership was well above 250. By cutting guard hours, our 2009 contract will be $46,500. If we had not changed our guard hours we would have been paying about $53,000 - $ 55,000 for next year. We had 3 proposals sent to us. At the pool meeting in October the decision was made to select Community Pools. I would like to let all pool members know this will not affect the operations of the pool. The pool hours will remain the same and operation hours were not cut. We will have to use savings from the OMSC account to assist in the 2008 operational costs.
I would like to wish everyone a happy holiday season. I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving and if you are traveling, have safe journeys.

—Tom Stag
