President's Message
We were unable to have a meeting in February. There were not enough individuals for a general meeting or a board meeting. Therefore we have no minutes to present.
The Spring Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 15, at 1:00 p.m. The rain date will be Sunday, the 16th. We are looking for candy donations. If you could donate small candy it would be appreciated. We are also in need of volunteers to help at the event. If you can volunteer or donate candy, please contact us at .
All has been quiet in the Olde Mill area. We have not heard of any concerns. This spring we will be having the road at Barlowe Field/Olde Mill Swim Club repaved. There may be times where we will not be able to access the parking area. Also there has been concern with parking on the grass. We have noticed that vehicles from the townhomes next to the swim club have been parked there and are tearing the grass area up. The board will be discussing after-hours parking. We have been discussing this option for the past eight months. Until we make a decision, please try to refrain from parking on the grass and remember VOMCA will not be responsible for loss or damages to private vehicles parked at the swim club.
I would like to thank Mike Hakulin, Jr., and Friends of Olde Mill (FOOM) for submitting a grant to Anne Arundel County for recreation equipment and maintenance supplies for the playground area. I wish the organization luck and hope your outcome is favorable. This grant helps all of us in the area. Thank you FOOM!
Reminder; Olde Mill Swim Club meetings will be held the Monday before the VOMCA meetings. If you want to find out what is going on at your pool this is a great way to do so.
This year’s carnival will be held from June 4 to 8. If you would like to volunteer please contact us at . If you can’t volunteer please remember that you can still help by purchasing an advance ticket. This is the biggest fundraiser for your community and allows us to take care of expenses at the field and assist the Olde Mill Swim Club.
Finances for VOMCA as of February 2008 are as follows: Savings $7,249.40, Checking $1,910.81, for a total of $ 9,160.21.
If anyone has any concerns or any ideas for the greater Olde Mill area, please contact us via email atyou guessed it: .

Play (Soft)Ball! Olde Mill League Readies for 33rd Season
The Olde Mill Adult Slow Pitch Softball League is once again inviting all adults living in Olde Mill to join in on the Sunday softball fun league. The league started in 1976, so we are entering our 33rd year of fun and games. We play at Barlowe Field, next to the pool off of Chalet Drive in Olde Mill (located behind the 7-11 on Old Mill Rd.). This is a community recreation league which is competitive, but not at the tournament caliber. We play on Sundaysexcept holidaysbut we do play on Father’s Day. The season starts in mid-April, and ends with a double-elimination tournament in August. Doubleheaders for each team are played throughout the day starting around 9 a.m. and ending around 6 p.m.
We strongly encourage players, families, friends, and relatives to join us throughout the day. There is a playground next to field for our young guests.
If you are an individual and wish to join a team, but do not have any contacts, then you should call Ed Dahling at 410-925-4194 and he will put you in touch with a team that is looking for additional players.
If you are a coach who has a team or you have several players and are looking for some additions to your roster, call Ed Dahling at 410-925-4194. The league fee will be between $500 and $550 per team, which includes the umpire fee, 1 new softball per game, 20 games, plus the end of year double-elimination tournament. We would like to have 10 or 12 teams in the league this year.
Our league is not affiliated with the county or any other sanctioning organization. We use the NSA rules with USSSA bat list. We have a few exceptions to NSA rules, such as: We allow four home runs per game; unlimited lineup (everyone gets to play and bat) with a minimum of 8 to field a team; we allow courtesy runners; and there is no automatic out for less than 10 batters.
